Note to anyone using BC Ferries: If any part of your dinghy sticks out past the hull OR if you have guideposts on your trailer take them off the swim platform and/or completely off the trailer before using the ferry. If you don’t you will be charged for a wide load which is double the normal rate.
They are being very, very picky about it this year.
Coming home my dinghy will be in the truck bed. So will the guideposts.
Also, only one propane tank allowed and the valve must be closed. RVs get two propane tanks but boats only one.
Lesson learned!

Wow, thanks for the great tips! I assume from your lesson learned that you have 2 propane tanks on your boat. What did you do? I hope you didn’t have to leave one behind and try to pick it up when you returned.

Terry,
We had one on the boat. Second one in the back seat. They never asked if we had propane tanks inside the car so we never said anything that wasn’t true.
The inspection leaving Tsawwassen was pretty strict. On the way back from Duke Point at Nanaimo they couldn’t care less. I guess it all depends who is in the toll booth.
The Walmart at Tsawwassen was a great place to overnight on the boat as we got off the ferry from Duke Point at about 10:30 PM. Good place to provision heading out too.
