Looking for ideas for the following...
1. Has anyone purchased a foam topper for the v-berth? We have 26 Cutwater and would like to improve the comfort?
2. What do you do to block the light from coming in through the windows in the v-berth?
3. Noticed our windows are leaking with rain...thoughts

Other than this...loving our boat!

Congrats on the boat, haven't seen you out on Narragansett Bay yet, where do you keep the boat? GANSETT RANGER is in Allen's Harbor in N. Kingstown. We put a 3" memory foam topper in the V berth 2 years ago and love it. We bought a king size topper and used an electric carving knife to cut it to shape. That knife will cut it like butter.
Ocean Air sky screens on hatches will eliminate the light or cut a vehicle windshield sun blocker to fit the hatch windows, they also help keep it cooler.
Window leak, all of them leaking? Side windows or hatches?

Hi Brian, We are at StoneCove Marina...we are loving the boat. We will keep a look out for you...What boat do you have...color? We saw a white Cutwater in Gallilee.

Great to hear about the foam topper...we will try that. Windows leaving are the bathroom, two of v-berth and the window near the table. Seals? Drains?

Start with making sure the drains are not blocked. If they are clear slowly work a hose around the perimeter of each window and check the seals. If the boat is under warranty contact the dealer or the factory. If you need a hand with this send me a PM.
I have a blue tug, check out my photo album.

The 3 inch memory foam from Costco is worth every penny, we sleep as good in the boat as in the house now, if not better!

Hi Laurie,

Mike here, glad to hear you are on the water. If the water is not coming from the windows themselves there have been instances of the gaskets leaking. If you determine that the water is infiltrating from around the frames you will need to remove the windows. Just remove all screws and while working the entire window from one end it will release. The "gasket" material is regular EPDM weather stripping that can be purchased at home depot. I helped ROAM replace his. What we found was the old material either shrunk or was put on too tight to the corners and hence leakage was starting to occur. When we did it we actually put two rows of material. We did this over a year ago and so far no problems. His boat was an older model classic 25 so I am surprised that it may be the gaskets, but one never knows. Perhaps your fix may be easier than gasket replacement, but I figured I would give you a heads up.
We won't be seeing you this season on the water as we are going to the Pacific Northwest, In any event have a great time and you will surely enjoy the folks at Stone Cove. It is a great spot. Don't forget "shuck a buck" at the restaurant next to the marina. You can't beat it!

Mike

A strip of tin foil on top of the bug screen works pretty well.

We took out or berth cushions and used them for templates to cut the 4" foam (Queen size) to size we purchased from Wal-Mart. We cut the two side pieces and the small rectangular piece in the middle for three separate pieces of foam. It was actually two different colors and density foams bonded together. It cost around 150 dollars as I remember. We later had it covered with Sunbrella canvas. We us a satin comforter on top of the memory foam with a second comforter to cover us up. My wife cut to a fabric store and bought what we think is called Marine Fabric. She cut it to size for all the overhead hatches to block the sun. She used a tan color but you can use what ever color floats your boat.

For keeping the sun out, we also used Sunbrella fabric to cover all the hatch windows. We put them on the outside and used self adhering Velcro on the hatch window frames. Most people on Tugnuts seem to want to block the sun from the inside. I chose the outside since I believe its better to shade the house with trees than to pull the shades. No wind has blown them off. During trailering I only pull the bow hatch shade off the rest seem protected well enough that they stay put. Watch me eat my words.
