Saw it too Bill , a friend that a Merchant Marine guy on big tankers said it was likely steering failure . Them babies are hard to stop.........

Hi Marc:

Hope all is well in Apalach.

Good point about steering failure and length of time it takes to stop a gazillion ton ship, but watching the waters astern of both ships, it doesn't look like vessel on left ordered all back full until AFTER the collision.

I couldn't see any detectable change in wake on ship on right.

Hard to tell maybe shift failure as well . Loss of control????
I have that problem sometimes .
