I am planning on installing a holding tank vent odour filter on my 2013 R29
Any advice on the best location and access to the vent line would be appreciated.
I have seen posts about doing this on Cutwater but not a R29

When we installed our homemade vent filter, I removed the refrigerator which allows easy access to vent hose. Filter was made from 2” pvc, garden hose fittings and activated charcoal. Works great!

On my 29 I installed my big orange under the refrigerator as well. There was plenty of room to mount the filter and all I had to do was cut the existing vent hose and plug the filter into either end. The entire project was about 45 minutes.

I will chime in here from an experience on my 2012 Ranger 29 while traveling the Great Loop. When the Tecma head sensor did not read a full holding tank, sewage got into the vent line which allowed the holding tank to become pressurized when the head was used. When I opened the deck fitting on the Hudson River to pump out, I experienced what I called, "The Hudson River ****-Show." You get the idea of the scene.

During the assessment and repair, I found the vent line traveled from the holding tank in the forward section of the boat to the aft section. Why it was not immediately to a closer point that was vertically above the tank is not known. The vent line was not adequately supported and had developed a sag allowing liquid to stay in it.

Why is this important to your situation? When you access the bowels of the boat after removing the refrigerator, inspect the vent line and use cable ties to support it and remove any sagging. I cut the line a foot shorter after doing so.

You can read a lot more about this and other adventures aboard the Ranger 29, including maintenance issues at the website: www.andamo-ranger29.com
