Replaced johnson bilge pump cartridge with a new one (1000 gph). Thought it might solve my problem of pump runs but no water comes out. Figured the hose might have an airlock. The hose goes from pump up to the rear compartment below the ice chest and actually comes thru the floor and makes a tight curve down thru the floor and goes to the thru hull. I bet the pump has to lift the water too high to that curve so I'm going to reroute the hose lower under the deck but still higher than the thru hull. Anybody feel that this is the right move or am I just dreaming?

Some pumps have a plug in them for transport. Might be the issue.

The comment about a transport plug joggled my memory. The first year with our tug I was moving the boat from home to the Saginaw River to put it in the water for the summer. At an intersection I was first at the stop light but couldn't move ahead when the light changed because a semi in the intersection was having a problem making the turn.. Guy behind me got impatient and moved up my starboard side with his wheels right down in the ditch so he could go around me (he thought) Just as he got even with bilge discharge the pump decided that the rain water from the night before needed to go. Right through his open window. He was not happy. Right then the semi finally made it and I drove on.
But a transport plug is probably a good idea. I figured it out later than I was stopped on an uphill grade and water in the chain locker had finally found its way to the bilge.
I suppose I should feel a lot guilty - or some guilty - or maybe even a little guilty - nyaaaa  I don't.

I fill up the bilge with hot soapy water once a year and use a hose to back flush water through bilge out let. This seems to continually clear stuck check valve year after year. Might be your problem. I think the synthetic oil slightly melts the rubber components in the check valve and makes them stick. Might be worth trying if you haven’t already done similar process.
