Hi, How do I keep the wires from my bilge pump and switch from being "eaten" by the shaft?

My shaft reached out and grabbed the wires, pulling the wire out of the pump and creating sort of a minor mess.

I replaced the pump crash, re-tied the wires, but can't seem to find a permanent solution.

Thanks

Hi Stuart:

Is it possible to zip tie the wires to something else in the bilge to keep them away from the shaft?

Jim

Stuart: Are you referring to the prop shaft or a shaft brush assembly causing this issue ?

My 2010 R-25 does not have a shaft brush. Some how the wires gut "suckded" into the bolts on the shaft assembly where it attaches to the transmission.

I've replaced the pump - the wires were pulled out by their roots - but can't see a sure way to keep it from happening again.

It would seem that you will need to re-route the wires away from the shaft bolts in some way. A picture might help us understand the issue better. 🙂

My wires come from the stern area and are nowhere near the coupling to the transmission. I do keep them tightly together with a zip tie to ensure they do not get next to the shaft. You may want to dry out an area near the wires in the bilge on the side and use one of those self sticking wire ties. However I would use epoxy to attach it since the self sticking adhesive won't last.
