We just bought our 2008 Ranger 25 😛 and I was wondering with the bilge pump, when we have the switch on at the 12v the pump runs all the time, even when there is no water in the bilge. Is this normal? Should the switch be left on all the time?

That is the manual over-ride switch.
Leave it off unless you feel the float switch in the pump has failed for some reason and there is water in the bilge.

Thank you denny-o! That makes sense!

Make testing and cleaning of the sensors a regular maintenance task. They tend to fail and if coated with oily slime they won't work, so cleaning them regularly is recommended.

Yes Mike we found that out, thanks to you and Jim showing us that sensor! It does get really grimy so that's gone on our check list as well.

Love the wealth of info shared here.

There is also a forward sensor and pump fro high water that should be checked regularly. On the R-27 it is on the port side forward of the alternator. Not sure where it may be on the R-31.
