With the sun now out in the Pacific Northwest (for the weekend anyway) we removed the bimini off the back of our Cutwater 28. With it off we now have exposed metal of the frame folded at the stern of the boat - and wish to keep the frame mounted for the time being. Would like a more finished look so think a boot around the top would do the trick. Anyone have the same experience and find a good place to purchase other than having a custom one made?

Thx

Getting ready to add a Bimini to our Cutwater 28 (just 3 weeks old). Local canvas guy includes a roll up boot in his build of the tri-braced folding Bimini. The key seems to be placing a zipper near the connection to the hard top to separate into two pieces, then rolling up, rather than folding? I know I'm not making sense.

Can you post a picture? I'll keep an eye out!

Thanks.

We have an R27 and a boot came with the factory cockpit canvas package. Maybe it's different with the Cutwater or maybe your canvas might have been dealer installed. Either way a call to Richard in parts (Ranger Tugs), or his equivalent at Cutwater, might yield you information on what he can offer.

I got a boot cover with my R21-EC also. Come to think of it, all the other boats I previously owned also had a boot cover. Looks like someone maybe forgot something. Did you get a camper package? Maybe the boot cover is mixed in with the camper package.

I am trying to find a bimini top for my 2012 Cutwater 28 as well and having trouble getting info from the factory and dealers.
Did your bimini come with the boat from the factory or custom made?
Sounds like you would like some changes to the design?
Any suggestions as to a better design if I have one custom made?
My back door overhang is just the small over hang and doesn't extend the width of the boat and presents some challenges as to sport and easy up and down of the top.
Thanks,

David

My bimini was made by the factory and delivered with my boat. My wife had one requirement for my new boat - it had to have a camper package. Ranger did not offer a camper package for the R21-EC at the time, but they came up with one at a reasonable price. That is an advantage of buying a boat at a boat show when there is a factory rep available. 😛 As an after thought, I would have liked to have some mosquito netting also. The man-eating flies out on the Bay can get pretty bad. My wife made some mosquito netting out of some picnic table umbrella netting - works pretty good.

You could get a top made by a local canvas shop but you never know the quality/workmanship unless you have a lot of references.

Even if you get a top from the factory, you will need someone to fit it to your boat. Your dealer should help you with that. I cannot believe the factory was not responsive to your request. Who did you talk to?

Hey David; I should think anywhere with a concentration of marinas/boating services would have a custom canvas shop or two. We had ours made custom and it only has one rear vertical post on each side and snaps to the cabin roof ahead of the door overhang and because it is double canvas zips around the outside frane rails. There are two slightly arched crossovers to support the roof in addition to the rear rail between the two posts. It's a cracker job and is tight enough to leave up trailering, and includes side zips and snaps at the top of the hull to add our choice of bug netting or window panels to completely enclose the cockpit when desired. In any case, far more appealing and better flowing lines than the factory folding biminis, and less poles and stuff to be working around and looking past all the time. Check the yellow pages and internet for your area and if you have a trailer a couple of trips - one for all the measurements, and one for the install should look after things if you can find someone who does quality work. Ours also almost exactly matches our wine coloured hull. Two years later and a fair bit of trailering and it still looks good as new although my whole rig is stored inside when not in use. Good luck.

Thanks for the info on your bimini top. It sounds like a good design
Do you have any pictures you can email me so I can show to my canvas guy ?

Thank you

DAVID
