Any other tugs on the lake to see the Blue Angels tomorrow?

If you have the chance to experience a Blues performance you should. We watch them every year and are always amazed. Pensacola is their home station so we get to watch them practice as well. You should definitely go. You won’t regret it.
Cheers!

If you separate the function from the form, ala Marcel Duchamp, you have some of the most beautiful moving sculpture of our era on display with no museum admission cost- comes with audio as well.

We braved the Ballard Locks for the first time ever just to go see this show. Our boat lives in San Francisco (shipped up last week for a month of cruising), so it/we found the whole experience entertaining since we haven’t got locks like this anywhere in California. Besides the two hour wait to go up through the locks, there was the guy single-handing a 50’ boat that nearly crushed us. Then the drag race at 7 knots through Lake Union trying not to hit anyone, followed by a trip across Lake Washington that was all chopped up with wakes from go-fast boats that looked to be out on the water—judging by the sunburns—for the first time this year. And yes, we discovered that folks in boats in Seattle can drink as much as folks anywhere else. We found all of this highly entertaining, including the show. That and the trip back through the locks.

For you PNW folks who like SeaFare, I recommend considering trailering or shipping your boat to San Francisco Bay for the early fall. The weather is usually good—warmest San Francisco gets—and Fleet Week in early October is a lot of fun, including a better air show (more planes, lasts twice as long, fantastic view on the water in your tug). We’ll meet you and show you THE spot to insure you will need a new hearing aid after the Blue Angels blow by.

But thanks Seattle. That was fun!

Watched them several years ago in Daytona while in our prior boat. Picking the right spot so they fly directly overhead is quite the experience. Closest they will be this year is in Jacksonville FL so maybe an overnight trip.

Certainly everyone looks at any event in a variety of ways. That is the beauty of thought. In this case you can cover your ears so that you appreciate the "art" and skill of flying at high speed as a team. Close your eyes and just hear the power of the engines. Alternatively as said by Michael Graves " The look and function are one in the same. They are not separate." Which I guess would be an appreciation of the equipment as well as the men and women that serve to protect us each and every day.

Either way - well worth the experience. Even better in a boat so that you don't have to fight the traffic out of the parking lot!

You get it
Seafair is a hoot, the locks are a hoot
Seafair on the lake is a mad celebration of massive consumption of carbon based fuel, insane decibels, liquor drinks and beer. Maritime excess under the sun. My boat was in the freshwater for routine maintenance at waypoint already, so I missed half the locks fun
