Boat colors

We are in the process of buying a 23' tug and are wondering about colors. We have gone on the website and changed the color of every sized boat and they all look a little different due to lighting/weather conditions. Does anyone out there have pictures of a Laurene Green boat they would share? Also, those of you who have dark colored hulls, do you have difficulty keeping them looking clean? Those with red, have there been any fading problems? Thanks!

I have a cutwater with a dark blue hull (most popular color.) We've had the boat 2 years (on our 3rd season) and as long as you wax & wash regularly it looks great. I can tell you that all of the colors are attractive so it's really just preference. I'm personally not a huge fan of the white hulls and if I was doing it again I think seriously about the gray hull (not sure if that's an option for rangers) as I really like it.

I have a red hull, and the boat stays in sunny Florida. I wax four times a year. Red is a terrible color down here. I had it compounded already and now am planning to paint it.

I see blue Rangers here too. Unless kept covered from the sun, they fade rapidly. I wish Ranger would switch to paint.

I have a blue hull (now 7 years old) and if there was to be another boat in my future it would not be blue or red. They look great when detailed but fade rapidly, who wants to spend days on end waxing a boat. I wish Ranger would
offer a white hull. There are white Cutwaters so why not white Rangers?

I have to concur with the others concerning fading gel coat. My R21EC is a 2012 blue hull and is quite susceptible to fading if not kept in the boat shed. Even with the boat spending most of its life out of the sun, it still requires a good buffing once or twice a year to keep the blue rich looking. On the other hand, I had sailboat that was painted dark green with automotive acrylic enamel with brightener and hardener added, and that sucker looked beautiful for the ten years I sailed her, and needed only a waxing in the Spring before splashing to remain good looking for the season.

We have a Hero Red boat. Anticipating that the amount of fading is dependent on the amount of time in the sun, we choose to keep our boat in a covered slip in the summer and garage it in the winter. So far so good, no sign of fading at all, but the boat is only three years old. Only waxing once a year and hose the boat off with fresh water completely after every trip. In Olympia it should less of a problem than in Florida but if you go with the darker colors You could choose to keep it covered when not in use.

If still concerned, go with Laurene green, I've heard it survives the sun much better. For an example, go to knotflying's photo album. His boat Illusions is Laurene Green and he keeps it much of the year in Florida.

Our R25SC has Ranger Gray. It doesn't seem to show salt water spots as badly as the dark blue.

I've had R21EC's in blue, white and red. 🙂 The blue faded worse. The white always looked dirty. The red one is a 2014 model and holding up well. Lost count of the boats I've owned. Dark blue was always the quickest to fade. They all faded at some point. A really good paint always lasted longer. White gel coat seemed to weather quickest resulting in a finish that attracted dirt and grime.
