I was wondering if anyone has had a canvas boat cover made for their Ranger Tug in the Pacific NW. I am looking for some recommendations. I know I have talked to a couple of people who have full boat covers. I was thinking of getting a canvas cover made for my R-29 that would just cover the salon part of the boat and maybe the cockpit (not the whole boat). I am looking for something to just keep the sun off that part of the boat in the summer when we are not on it. (We do not have a covered slip). Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks. Doug,

As an alternative I have used a white heavy duty tarp to cover the boat. For $107.00 I get two to three years out of it and have had no unpleasant issues. I use bungee cords to to fasten it to the frame. It survived hurricane Sandy as well. It folds up fairly small also. I use white because I also have the solar panel and I still get a good charge out of it with the tarp on. We also used a 40' by 25' tarp on Kodiak Island with bungee and ratchet straps under the hull and were able to get two to three years out of the material. Kodiak often has high winds, ice and heavy snow so we built a PVC pipe backbone from bow to stern held up by pvc pipe support arms zip tied on the stainless rails. To keep the wind from tearing the tarp we also placed old rugs/towels over any sharp edges. Wanted to break down this long pipe to store in the summer so sections come apart (drilled holes in the end of connecting pipes and secured with more zip ties). We secured the bow and left the stern end accessible so we could board in the winter to check on the cabin condition or do work in the cabin. The snow and rain ran off the cover. Also used the grommet tool to replace when needed.

King Canvas is absolutely the best.

We have a custom King Marine cover for our R-27 that covers all but the sides of the hull. It is heavy and a bit of a pain to get on and off by yourself, but when the boat is sitting out on its trailer, it stays mighty clean.

I had them put an isenglass window in the top of it that lines up with the solar panel. Keeps the batteries nice and topped up while the boat is sitting there on the trailer.
