I've enquired about this coverage with my Ins. Co. The Hartford of Connecticut. For the R-25 they quoted me $433/yr. This is somewhat discounted as I have my home and autos insured by them. The one thing they pointed out to me was the liability limit of $10,000 for oil and diesel spills. I mentioned this limit to Jeff of Ranger Tugs and he thought the limit was a bit low. The Hartford will not offer a higher limit and said I would need to engage a different Ins. Co. if I wanted a higher limit.

I'm unclear as to what the liability limit for the oil and diesel spill coverage should be for the R-25. Is there any advice people can offer to me on this subject? Thanks.... 🙂

Check with Progressive.

Progressive for me too

What about that $10,000 liability coverage for the oil/diesel spillage? Is the $10K sufficient?

The level of coverage is a personal call. If you're careful, you'll never need it. I don't even know how much mine is frankly, I know it's there and that comforts me. Not sure if a personal liability policy will provide coverage, hope I never have to find out.

$10,000 for oil/fuel isn't close to being enough coverage. My coverage is close to a $1,000,000, which is pretty typical and is offered as a matter of course with the annual premium less than $450. My last two policies for my Albin and for my Ranger were for that amount of coverage.

A fuel line or a fuel tank leak into the bilge can result in a large spill, easily, depending on tank capacity. Fines, penalties and cleanup are expensive.

How many of us turn off the fuel supply line valve when leaving the boat? Or close all the thru-hulls?

My progressive policy limits are 100/300k for liability . That includes fuel spill liability. I also cover total loss replacement of $136k with $250 deductable (collision and comp). And I just discovered that I have $500 for towing (darn - I also have Boat US towing coverage...oops!) - Thanks for making me look. I pay $463/yr - but get discounts (multi policy, etc)

And I do close all sea cocks when leaving the boat. Then I don't have to worry about a hose coming loose - or leaking. My waterwitch bilge water level sensor will not trigger the pump if it is pure fuel in the bilge

Hey, THANKS to all who have responded to the oil/diesel spill coverage and liability limit. This has helped me a great deal in making sure I have the correct coverage for our new R-25. 🙂
