Does anyone have actual speed and performance data for a 2014 RT 25' with Volvo D3-150 engine? I am looking for engine rpm vs boat speed. What is the WOT for that engine? I see the horsepower rating is at 3000rpm. Thanks.

I had a RT25SC and with the VP150 and at WOT you should be getting 16 to 17 knots depending on how much you have loaded the boat. This number is with a clean bottom. The RT25SC is very much affected by load, the more you put on the boat the slower it becomes. With a clean bottom and lightly loaded (1 or 2 people on board) my RT25SC will do 17 knots at about 3050 rpm. When we go on a week cruise with all the provisions and 2 people on board and cruise at 2600 rpm will be 10 to 12 knots. The fuel economy will be about 2 MPG.

I don't have that engine, but if I did, I would be unsure of what you are asking. Do you want the rated WOT for the engine, or what people typically get on the water. if it is the first, Volvo should have that info in the manual for the engine. If it is the second, you have asked in the right place and others (not me) should be able to help!

dclagett's speed in knots is pretty close to what we experienced with our 2015 R25SC. We boated in fresh water with an unpainted clean bottom ( boat lived on its trailer in a garage when not in the water ). Interesting his fuel mileage is in miles per gallon (but maybe he means nautical miles per gallon which would be closer to what we got). We typically would get 2.3 miles per gallon unless the water was very rough. When the fuel tank was less than half and the waste tank was empty we would get 2.4 miles per gallon. If the boat has the correct prop for the way you have it loaded it should turn 3000 RPM wide open. Obviously, it will fluctuate depending on fuel load and other loading issues. Our boat would only turn about 2930 when it was fully loaded and when it was lighter and if there was a tail wind it would turn 3030 RPM. Our typical cruise at 2400 to 2450 RPM was 13 to 14 MPH (11.3 to 12.1 Knots). dclagett's comment about the boat being very sensitive to loading weight is right. When we were lightly loaded (at the end of a cruise when the fuel tank was down to 1/3 and the 2 weeks of food was mostly gone) if it was flat we could see 20 mph, or 21 if the wind was blowing with us.
The boat puts out a great wake at 11 mph with the trim tabs fully up, which is the right speed if you want to wake surf!

I believe the posts so far are spot on. Further, the R 25 and the R 25SC ( which is our boat as well ) are very similar in performance. The SC is far more sensitive to trim than the 25 due to engine, batteries and genny placement being installed so far aft.

Mid 1600 to mid 1700 rpm’s we net around 4 to 5 mpg and like 1.7 gallon per hour. WOT for us is around 2930 - 2950 rpm ( we are loaded always, 2 adults, one 65 pound dog fuel water gear etc … ) about 15 knots only and 1.9 to 2.1 mpg … depending on sea condition. Our boat is a 2014 SC.

We get a little less speed at WOT but are really stern heavy as that is were coolers, wife and dog are … on a trip we travel closer to 8 knots most often.

I started this thread a while back. It was to help Ranger and Cutwater future or present owners to compare their performance numbers with others. This will help to understand proper loading of the engine and if the performance of a given boat is comparable and if it isn't why isn't it. Most of the time the performance of theses boats is drastically changed because of loading. Under powered, short water line lengths, and narrow beam boats. This is what we wanted so it was easily trailered. The more folks that record their numbers the more it helps other Tugnuts. It also helps to reduce threads with the same theme.

Unfortunately there is not much information about The R25. Its never to late to enter some good information for the future.
