Just purchased a new Cutwater 30 CB. We will be boating in Maine and keeping the boat in Maine during the winter months. My question is I have the option of keeping it indoors heated or indoors with no heat. Is it worth the extra money to keep it indoors heated.

I would say if you’re planning on doing any work on the boat during the winter then stay warm indoors. If it’s not a budget buster keep it warm indoors. Maine winters can be brutal on batteries and such and the cost of replacing things could offset the cost of the heated building. My 2 cents.

Heated would be nice, but if properly winterized and covered you should have no issues. Lots of boats in Maine are outside in the winter, you would be no different. If you plan on working on the boat then inside is a must up in Maine. You will also save on shrink wrap or a tarp.

Most of the boats here in Western Wisconsin are shrink-wrapped and stored outdoors. We winterized our R27 and stored it in an unheated boat warehouse for just a little more than the wrapping cost. I removed the batteries and had them on trickle chargers in my unheated garage.

If you store it in a marina boathouse, heated or unheated, you probably won't have access to it for security reasons.

From what I understand, a shrink-wrapped boat can get moldy if it's left wrapped too long with poor ventilation.

Thanks everyone. I’m leaning to the heated indoor.

Indoor....either cold storage with proper preparation or heated depending on cost difference and availability...have done both........Outdoor Shrink wrap ,as mentioned, will sometimes cause condensation and mildew issues....indoor for sure...ask about vermin control too.....

I like heated inside storage, no condensation from temperature swings. Many marinas will allow work to be done during the winter. The marina where I winter stored allowed this. I thought of it as boating all winter. I could do winter projects. We all have priorities as to what is important. Covered outside, cold inside or heated all works as long as you prepare the boat correctly for the type of storage you choose.
