My boat trailer is an EZ Loader aluminum made for the Ranger Tug R27. It is a bunk type trailer that makes launching from a sling lift difficult. So I decided to add bunk cutouts. Not wanting to actually cut the bunks, I added "2 by" treated material to the top of the existing bunks leaving a slots for the slings. Here is a couple of pictures of the finished project.

The eyes on the slings tend to be thick...

Your idea is great, thanks for sharing. What is the material you used to cover the aded bunks? Also keep us posted when you use it for the first time....was it wide enough, tall enough and or what (if anything) would you do different. Nice photo's.

I did check with the sling operators that I have used, and they assured me that the 1.5 inch by 12.5 inch slots would work fine.

Thanks Jim, we will load the boat in a couple of weeks so we will find out if my calculations work. The material is an indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot. It appears other than color to be exactly what the factory used. It comes in 12 foot widths. I bought four foot of it, and had the clerk cut it in one foot strips as she took it off the roll. The only problem was that being nice, she gave me a little extra on each strip so I still had to do a little trimming. 😀
