Hi
Traveling south soon and wondering about signing up to Boat US ? I have insurance coverage for towing but wondered if anyone has experience with them as far as discounts etc. I'm thinking having something in place may simplify things as opposed to putting in a claim etc. Hopefully is a waste of money and I never need but best to be safe .
Thanks
Mark

I've been a BoatUS member for many years, also have their towing insurance. Both very reasonably priced. With membership their are discounts from many marinas for fuel, slips and repairs. If by "south" you mean Florida then you will see their tow boats everywhere - on busy weekends often hovering like vultures around the most popular "run aground" destinations. From friends who have used them it seems like the process is about as efficient and painless as you can make it. As a bonus the BoatUS magazine is a good read.

We, too, have been Boat US members for years. The only time we have had occasion to use the insurance was when we had a blowout on our boat trailer... you can add road service to your Boat US insurance for only $10. Middle of New Mexico, over 40 miles from the nearest town; Boat US had a mobile tire service to us in less than an hour. We have used the membership for discounts at marinas, but it seems that most marinas don't advertise it - you have to ask. More often than not, the marinas we have visited don't offer any kind of a discount... but, if people keep asking about it, they may join up.
