BOATUS is working on an article about people who have changed the style of boat they own....ie: big boat to trailerable, sail to power, etc., of which we are participating. The one “change” they are still looking to cover is a party who has gone from power to sail boat so I thought I’d ask those on Tugnuts. You do not have to own a Ranger or Cutwater and you do not need to be a great writer. The editor will do a phone interview and write that portion of the story from his notes. So if there is someone who fits the power to sail boat change category please PM or post here.

I don’t think anyone goes from power to sail?

Yes I do think they are a rare bird but that’s exactly why I’ve asked because I have not found any or know of any but stranger things happen!

I went from power to sail this year. I was a sailor for most of my life, two years ago I bought a Rosborough RF-246. We loved the boat, very seaworthy but we missed sailing so this year we sold the Rosborough and bought a Saga 35 sailboat.

We switched from power to sail. Full disclosure: We are life-long sailors, mostly sailboat racing. We decided to try power (Ranger Tugs 27) for cruising and the relative ease and speed for covering longer distances. Frankly, I found that I used the auto-pilot almost all of the time, because driving the powerboat was just plain boring compared with the constant adjustments I made when sailing. Probably made worse by hydraulic steering. Just not the degree of communication with the boat that I liked. Sorry, but there it is.
