My Tug is midnight blue and spends 6 mos a year docked in a clean, clear, Adirondack mountain lake and is stored 6 months in a warehouse. It does not have bottom paint, and the area below the water line has become light blue which I understand is normal with this gelcoat. Every Spring, the boat is detailed and the bottom of the hull is cleaned and waxed with "no wax" Mirage.(makes the boat go faster). I'm curious....do others bottom paint their boats if used only in clean, fresh water, and if so, why?

I keep my Tug in fresh water and use Pettit Hydrocoat SR. The bottom paint is an anti-slime paint, the paint also holds up to beaching and trailering. If I didn't use a bottom paint there would be slime growth below the waterline.
