For those of you wanting to make your tug more rustic.
This supplier makes bow fenders or whiskers as well as rope fenders.

I had Barbara at the "Marlinspikeartiist" make a bow fender for my R-25 last year and it did not work out very well. Nothing wrong with the fender Barbara supplied but if I mounted it high enough on the bow to where it looked right, it would block the anchor from falling and I would have to go forward and release the anchor manually. Same problem on anchor retrival. The anchor would catch in the fender and hang off the bow. Requiring another trip forward to finish raising the anchor. If I mounted the fender low enough on the bow so it did not interfere with the anchor, it did not look right and it would interfere with the winch on the trailer when I was taking the boat out of the water. I ended up just taking it off. It seemed like a good idea at the time to make my boat look a little more salty but it turned out not to be very practical.

Having an anchor out front and pushing on a barge/boat seem mutually exclusive...
The tugs I have seen have a lot of old tires hanging over the sides and the bow - not really photogenic or salty...
Working tugs are just farm tractors for plowing the water and are treated as such...
