Occasionally my bow thruster over-revs, as if it were cavitating. Is this normal? Any recommendations?
Thanks.

Hi there,

This can be normal but has nothing to do with cavitation. The thruster prop can sometimes briefly breach the water surface, for example if the boat is in any kind of chop and the bow rises enough to allow the prop not to be completely submerged. Also, sometimes when you change direction and the prop has pushed a lot of water, it is possible for an air pocket to get "sucked" past the prop and allowing it to momentarily speed up like what you are hearing. The increase in pitch is nothing more than the propeller spinning up briefly due to lower resistance. Hope this helps explain it a bit.

Cheers!

Ralf
