A shallow boat ramp. Had a hard time getting my R25 off and on the trailer so I got some bunk slides and put them on.
I have not tried them yet but I think it would be ok. They screw into the bunk board and are about 2 feet long. They say they might scratch the gel coat but with bottom paint I think they should be alright. Would appreciate any thoughts on this.

Hi Jim,

Not sure about the bunk slides, as we don't use them with our trailers that we deliver. I would be a bit cautious though, as bottom paint can actually be considerably more delicate than gel coat, especially if it is fully- or semi-ablative. I hear you about shallow boat ramps, as ours get pretty shallow at low tides. You can still get the boat off but it requires a bit of finesse. Hopefully they will help your situation but let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Ralf

I have used Mary Kate Liquid Rollers spray on bunk lubricant on my fishing boat and tug trailers.....works well for me. Be careful of slider strips...grit and salt will cause scratches even in bottom paint.

I also use liquid rollers. No downside to using it other than the cost.

I have used the plastic bunk slides on my last two boats - no issues with scratching that I've seen (I do clean the slicks before retrieving). These are not the short pieces, but rather the plastic covers that go over the whole bunk; screwed in place on the sides so there's no chance of metal from the screws coming in contact with the hull. Seems to allow the boat to slide on/off easier than with just the carpeted bunk.

I installed the gatorbunk covers on my trailer and have had no problem. The old carpet would hold moisture and rot the bunks, also would hold dirt and sand which would work like sand paper on the boat. I did switch to a more durable bottom paint designed for training which is harder.
They were a little more expensive up front but am hoping to save labor and cost in the long run.
