Checked my zincs the other day to find a big difference between the two engine pencils.
The top one was a little scaley and pitted but otherwise good.
However the bottom one was just a corroded nub, it had virtually disappeared.

What has your experience been? Is this normal for the BY?
The prop zinc and trim tabs look fine by the way.

The Cummins Rep explained this situation to me the other day when he came to do our orientation. The bottom Zinc sits in water all the time as more than likely it is below the waterline. The top Zinc is above, therefore, once you shut down the motor, the water drains until it is level with the waterline. This leaves the top Zinc out of the water.

We saw the same thing you are describing on Karma. The top one would be in good shape but the bottom one would be ready to be replaced.

That makes perfect sense. Glad to know I haven't got something weird going on!

Thanks!

Hmmm - that piece of info will make me change my engine zinc inspection process. I was using the top zinc to assess the erosion of the bottom zinc because the lower one is much harder to access and remove. Boo - hiss... BUT thanks David. 🙂
