C-24 Anchor light extension

Hoping that someone has come up with a solution for the small anchor light that is installed on the Cutwater C-24. We have a paddle board and a couple of kayaks on top of our boat and the anchor light is not tall enough to be seen very well at night. I have to assume that others have this same problem and are not interested in taking the kayaks off when anchored at night. I have been thinking about getting a light and mounting it to a taller aluminum pole that would slip over the existing pole and then rig up the end of the wire so that I could plug it in where the existing bulb plugs in. I am a little concerned that adding the extra length may be hard on the plastic piece that is bolted to the top of the boat now......I would like to avoid using an external battery style light if possible but am open to suggestions.
