I'd like to upgrade the anchor on my C28 from the factory 16.5 Lewmar to a Rocna 10 or 15. Would the 10 be sufficient for my 8000(dry weight)# boat or do I need to move up to the heavier 15. I think both would fit easily. Does the heavier 15 put a strain on the windless ? My boating is in the PNW only.
Thanks for your input. I anticipate a difference of opinions.

We have a Rocna 15 on our R27. Very happy with it and sleep much better than we did with the Lewmar. We have had no issues with the windlass handling the anchor.

I have one anecdote for what is is worth. We were in Squirrel Cove in Desolation Sound two weeks ago rafted to a friends 55' Ocean Alexander (OA). We expected high winds that night and we were stern tied (which increases the load on the anchor if the wind hits abeam). The OA had a 120lb CQR anchor down in a mud bottom and we decided to add our Rocna 15 as well. Well the wind howled all night switching from side to side making the stern line sing. We didn't budge. Next day we took the R27 to the Squirrel Cove store to do some laundry and buy supplies, leaving the OA with its anchor and stern tie. When we returned the OA anchor had dragged an the boat was only 10ft from the rocks. It appears the Rocna 15 held better than the 120 lb CQR ( or at least the combination did).

I recommend the 15.

See my post from April 26 , 2016 regarding me trying to fit a Rockna on my CW 28.
This may help. I like Rockna very much but had Some issues with the fit in the roller. With some work, you can make it work.

15 wont fit a cutwater. because of the clearance at the top. Rocna 10 just fits.
very different design to the tug.

Rocna also makes the Vulcan model that may work on the C28.

I tried it first 🙂
Vulcan 15 doesnt fit either.
