C28 Bilge pump questions

My aft bilge pump has stopped working. I first went to check my fuses. They are shown as (2) 5 amp fuses in the Thruster Battery Fuse Block. I pulled both the pump #1 and Pump #2 fuses and, because I was curious as to whether the switch light would work with the fuses pulled, I flipped both to the ON position at the helm. To my surprise, the forward bilge pump still turned on??? I verified that water was being pumped. This was very unexpected and very confusing. Any thoughts?

There are two wired circuits. The dash switch is wired to the house battery and is fused there. The auto switches are wired to the thruster 24/7 fuse panel. The bilge pumps will operate manually from the switches at the dash with the auto switch disabled. It sounds like if the bilge pump in question aft Lower primary pump did not work in auto or manual it either has poor connections at the pump or the pump has failed. The forward pump is a high water pump secondary pump. If it is pumping water you have a lot of water in your bilge. Did the high water alarm activate?

When I first bought my boat (it was one year old) I was having some bilge pump issues. One was not going on and the other was staying on. I cleaned each one and then flooded area with water. All work perfectly now. I think they sometimes just get gunked up and have trouble with typical operations.

I carry and extra on board.
