Does anyone else’s C28 list to port? I thought about moving the Thruster and Engine battery from port to starboard with the house bank but that looks like a bit of a hassle. I then thought about adding two batteries to the house bank to make 4x110ah but that adds weight and I don’t necessarily need a larger house bank. I’m considering lithium in the future so that wouldn’t make a ton of sense. Lithium is lighter so the list would become more pronounced. Would lithium work for engine and thruster to alleviate weight from the port side? There’s nothing on the port side of any weight that I can move. So I’m kind of at a loss.

Anyone else experience this or have any advice?

Maybe make sure your water tank on starboard is full and the waste tank on port is low or empty. That might help a little bit.

Hi Headlee, Both tanks are along the center line.

This is a a common issue with all the Fluid motion inboards. I moved batteries to starboard on my C26, it helped. It is hard to balance the weight on a 8.6' beam boat. The easiest way to compensate is just move gear around so the boat floats level when at rest.

Thanks BB Marine - In your opinion, should I add two house batteries or move the engine and thruster to starboard? More weight and amp hrs vs same weight and amp hrs.

The port list is I'm sure a universal problem. We pretty much eliminated ours within a few months of buying our 2012. We moved the house batteries to the starboard side for openers. Our problem was exacerbated because our dinghy motor lives above the swim platform on the port side too - really the only spot for it. From the factory all the kitchen ware is on that side, plus the fridge and contents, plus all the extra storage (or gen set) outside the cabin door. We had the factory eliminate the wine fridge and we use that helm storage area for all our heavy foodstuffs like canned goods, liquids, and heavy dry goods. If you don't use the second berth or "cave" move anything heavy down there onto the outboard starboard side. My tools also live with the repositioned house batteries to add weight to the starboard also. IMO not enough attention was paid to this at the factory. With all the domestic functions lined up on the port wall, ALL the batteries should have been on the starboard side! You could go ahead and do that if you're moving house batteries but that's a bigger wiring challenge. Oh, and by the way, adding fins to the Bennett Trim Tabs really helps in bringing the bow down at speed also.

I appreciate the advice. Fins are on the list for this winter. I think I can add a bus bar or two and Move the batteries without a too much hassle. Thanks again!

I moved thruster and both house batteries to starboard. The C26 had all battery cables coming from the starboard to the port so the was no need for a bus bar. I actually had extra cable left over when it was completed. I left the engine battery on the port. I moved the ACR's to starboard. There are photo's of the move in my album. Moving the 3 batteries did give a slight list to starboard. I have the dinghy motor mounted on the port side and 20 gallon fuel tank port side which balances the boat perfectly. My suggestion is move the batteries with the boat in the water. do a "dry run" before moving the wires. This will let you know if moving 2 batteries or 3 will accomplish what you are trying to achieve.

As far as the Drop fins. I believe the drop fins are a must for the C26 or C28. I have photos of the drop fin installation in my album. I'm now running with 18 X 12 trim planes which have close to the same effect as 12 x12 with drop fins. The only reason I installed larger planes was I may have the boat lifted by a fork truck while in Florida. I'm afraid that the forks would damage the drop fins if the fork truck operator is not careful.

Yes it lists.

I store gear in starboard mid berth and starboard locker to balance the boat.

I believe the boats have the batteries moved like you say to 2 on each side.

Any recommendation on 250 amp vs 600 amp bus bar for engine and thruster so I can use current cables and run fewer to the starboard side? I’ll have to move ACRs and run separate cables for those.

I didn't find the need for a bus bar. I used the cables installed. I cut them to the new lengths needed.

Our house batteries just required longer cables and are still wired the same as they were on the stock boat.

Hi,
My 2018 C24 was the same way. leaned to the port side but was able to correct the problem by moving gear around. Moved heavy stuff to starboard side Bow and stern. I was thinking about moving batteries but I am glad I did not have to.

My 28C lists to port as well. We put our gear in the starboard side. Might move some things around like others in this string have done but it’s been that way for a couple of years so...

What are fins/drop fins for the bennett trim tabs mentioned in this thread? I've also wanted to make my trim tabs larger for better planing but I could only go 2 inches wider or I'd obstruct the rear thruster on my C28.

The drop fins work great. The Bennett service representative told me that the addition of drop fins would give the equivalent of 18 X12 Bennett planes. The factory installed are 12 x12 and to small. I used the standard drop fins and then made a set of custom drop fins both added a great deal of stern lift which is needed C26 and C28 and from what I'm told even the outboard models need stern lift.

I did replace the 12x12 with drop fins to a standard 18X12 Bennett plane only because I may have to have the boat lifted with a fork truck while in Florida. With drop fins they may get damaged when lifting the boat this way if the operator is not careful (only reason I changed to 18x12). The 18 x12 work as good but required more work for the install. I was able to leave the cylinder in place, fill the existing holes for the hinge with west system epoxy and mount the wider planes.
