Hi. I am hoping someone can help me with some ideas to solve an over-crowding problem.

The cavity at the foot of the steps [outside the door to the head] in my C-28 is the site for both the shower sump box and the puck for the depth sounder. The space isn't big enough for both of them -- the puck has been dislodged from the hull by something so no depth gauge. I am in the process of trying to re-attach the sounder but, frankly, one of them has got to go.

I don't know just what accounts for the overcrowding. Some thoughts that occurred to me are:

* maybe the shower sump box was replaced by the previous owner and the original was a smaller make / model. It certainly is very tight squeeze. I went looking for other products but the Rule that is currently installed seems to be about standard dimensions;

* maybe people just use an inline pump to get the shower water over the side

* maybe the shower water is just meant to discharge into the cavity and then find its way to the bilge (though the dedicated fitting on the side of the hull suggests this not the answer)

* maybe the sounder is meant to go somewhere else (thought this is really the ideal spot as the hull is flat here and it is a forward location).

Anyway, I am out of ideas about how to have both a shower discharge and a sounder.

Maybe the place to start is to ask, just what happens to the shower water on your boat and where is the sounder located?

Thanks in advance,

GraemeC

I replaced the sump with a manual switch and inline pump a few years ago. Pumps fast and leaves me lots of space,

Easy and neat.... decide where you want the sump box to have clearance...then cut a section out of the side of the box and glass in (I use a plastic coffee container as a mold) ....what that will do is give you a sump box with a hump on the side of it to give you plenty of clearance...it's a really easy project ...and working with West Systems Epoxy is not only fun but super strong ....plus it looks kool... If we were closer I would come and do it for you...neat custom project.

captstu also has a good idea...I did that with my tug years ago...I used a Jabsco washdown pump and a manual switch ... it works gangbusters...

Maybe I need to tell you that my tug is old and not an investment of any great value...just a fun boat...your boat is an investment and cutting and modifying things can devalue a boat...me I do not care...but it is important for you...I have modified my C-Dory (2 boat owner) and I also do not care as that is a boat my widow will have to sell...Ha !
