I recently purchased the C32 LE 2024 which is being built in Seattle and delivery is expected in May. I have the 44 page manual and find that it is extremely vague. Does anyone have a more detailed operators manual with diagrams perhaps? I am specifically interested in understanding how the electrical system works, plugged in, at anchor, on generator power, how the solar works, the inverter, what operates on battery only, etc. Any help at all is very much appreciated!

There aren’t any further detailed manuals than that. To answer your questions:

1) plugged in: shore power is charging all batteries and passing AC power through to the AC outlets in the boat
2) at anchor: 12V only will run all of your 12v appliances. If you turn on your inverter, you’ll have power at your AC outlets as well
3) generator: running battery charger and AC loads. No need to invert in this scenario. Can also use 12V system
4) solar: trickle charges all batteries

I assume from your forum name that you are/were an aviator. It would be wonderful if the manual provided with your brand new $300K+ vessel provided a systems description on par with the most basic airplane. The systems description in the manual for a 50 year-old two-seat training airplane is likely way better than what you’re reviewing to prep for delivery of your new boat.

If the manual for your new boat is anything like the one for my 2012 Ranger Tug, be on the lookout for errors of fact and omission. A couple examples from my manual: The house batteries on the electrical schematic are not shown wired in parallel. According to the electrical schematic, the windlass doesn’t exist. The water system diagram is indecipherable.

Hopefully, you’re purchasing the on-water training. Have someone video it for review.

Having owned an R-23 and presently owning an R-31, in both cases, the manuals were sadly lacking and the AC one lines were nonexistent. For the money paid, I would have hoped for a more detailed owner's manual.

At the 30,000 ft level, the manual is usually accurate. When you get into the weeds of exactly how your boat was built it’s pretty much a custom build. Not like a Ford coming off an assembly line, these boats are really custom even though they are suppose to be identical. The older the boat the more custom. Just take everything with a grain of salt and don’t take anything for granted and you will be ok.

We purchased our 2015 R31-CB (LE) used 3 years ago. We were novices relative to the systems on the boat. We had to learn on the fly and Youtube and local knowledge went a long way to understanding how everything is tied together. The delivery orientation is supposed to be somewhat thorough - hopefully you are able to take advantage of that with prepared questions. This forum can be extremely helpful......good luck.

PRACTICAL SAILOR (a sailing maint journal, however, much of their content applies to boating in general) has a whole series of e-books on marine electrical systems - 5, I think - that are nothing less than excellent, very very informative, and you can download either e- or print hardcopies. Very practically written. I downloaded all of the electrical and sanitation articles and refer to them more than I care to admit. Just Google Practical Sailor and take it from there. Once you pay for a download of a book, they remain in your 'library' and you can download them again, if needed. Hope this helps
