Our R-27 will be in the water through the winter in Port Orchard and I'd like to get a recommendation on a good, relatively inexpensive 120 VAC heater to avoid freezing while the boat is awaiting the next opportunity we'll have to get away for a while. Any ideas? Thanks.

Don and Barb,
As you are aware, we keep Karma one dock over from you in Port Orchard. We left and used Karma all through last winter and plan the same for this winter. We are currently planning a trip to Victoria over Thanksgiving weekend. Last year we did the San Juans the week between Christmas and New Years.

We use a DeLonghi oil filled radiator to keep Karma at a reasonable temp through the winter months. When we leave her, we set the radiator on low which will keep her around 60 degrees. Once we are back on board we will turn leave this heater on low and use a West Marine heater under the dinette and one in the stateroom to get Karma to a comfortable temp of 72 degrees.

I purchased the oil filled radiator heater at Wal Mart for $40.00. It has the an automatic shut off if it should tip over.

I did not worry about heating the bilge as the water should keep her above freezing.
