Can’t get front cabin outlet on. I’m on shore power and all else looks good but can’t get the outlet in the
Bow cabin to come on. Any ideas. The boat is new to us and we are still trying to figure out things.

What boat do you have??

It's a 2013 Ranger Tug 31CB. We've had it on before, so don't think it's a fuse...just can't seem to consistently get the sequence right for what to turn on to get shore power everywhere. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Is the outlet a GFCI outlet? If so try resetting the reset button. If the outlet is not a GFCI it is most likely tied into one that has tripped and needs reset. Check this and let us know.

No - no GFI on that one, nor could I find any outlets with GFIs that were tripped.

The GFCI for the front stateroom outlet is in the Head.
The GFCI for the Dinette outlet is in the cave, around corner by entrance.
Took me a day to figure out why dinette outlet was dead, cannot see cave outlet without getting down there.
Kitchen GFCI can be seen
Icemaker GFCI underneath, have to clear out lazerette and lay down to find it.
I added an extension here for Christmas lights.
We also have a 120 volt outlet behind DC switches.
Manual shows DC quite well, but not AC.
good luck

Great input, very helpful-thanks! All GFCIs look ok except the one in the front head... no green light, yet can’t find any fuses blown ...could be the problem...guess these are “regular “ GFCIs available at any Home Depot??

When you found the one that has no green light did you push the reset button on the plug? Need to try that before buying a new one. they rarely go bad.

Yes, I tried to press the reset, but still no green light.

Hello,

Didn't see anyone ask or see in your post but thought I would ask, you have to correct breaker on for the FWD outlets on the AC panel? If so, I would guess that the GFI in the head has gone bad.

Thanks,
Kevin Lamont

Remove the outlet and check attached wires with volt meter on the back where they attach before buying new fixture. If you are not getting power to the gfi fixture than it is most likely not faulty.

Wow - this is really getting to me - I just replaced the outlet with a new GFI, and now have the green light on, but 1) pressing the reset button does nothing, and 2) it still does not provide power to my test appliance (a toaster). 🙁

Did you run the test posted that has you test to see if power is coming to the wires before you connect to new plug? If getting a green light you should have power to the switch. Reset button needs to be pushed in all the way and when power is on. Be sure you have wired as instructed in directions.
Obviously (or not) dont touch bare wires, wear rubber soled shoes and no water on floor.
Just for the fun of it push test button. See if reset pops.
Then push reset in.

And.....are you sure toaster works?
If you dont have a tester it is an inexpensive good tool to have.

Did you get the line terminals and load terminals wired wrong? If you have line and load backwards the light will be on but the outlet will not provide power and will not test. The wires Black to brass terminal, white to silver terminal, green to the colored ground terminal. The black and white leads that come from the power panel must be attached to the line terminals. If there is another outlet in series with the ground fault the wires going to that outlet need to be attached to the load terminals.

You can also check the preceeding outlet in the circuit to ensure the terminals are tight and not corroded.

Yeah! That was it - the line and load were reversed...I never checked that it was wired wrong - why should that have been the problem??? I was assuming that it was wired correctly from the factory, and that the outlet in the forward cabin was original and not an add-on!?

Many thanks for everyone's help - you're a great group of guys and gals!!

PS - the toaster works great! 🙂

You just never know what someone might have done. I am helping my son with some home wiring and when you see what the prior owner did you just have to scratch your head and ask why???
Process of elimination eventually worked here. Glad to see it works. Did you have a celebration "toast" afterwards?
Could not resist that one.
