A couple of days ago I had a catastrophic failure in the 5/8” to 3/4” nylon fitting in the AC discharge hose for the unit just forward of the cave. The barbed end sheared off, presumably due to stress, because the nylon fitting is installed almost immediately after the discharge pipe on the AC unit and where the hose bends around unit before terminating at the hull fitting. The discharge side of the AC is 5/8” and the hull fitting is 3/4”. Luckily, I was onboard when the failure occurred and I was able to shut down the AC quickly once I saw less than a typical discharge rate from the hull fitting. What a mess, though, when raw salt water is shot all over the monkey fur, the AC unit and the removable bulkhead panels in the cave.

I decided to replace the discharge hose with a heater hose that has one end molded to 5/8” and the other end molded to 3/4” thus eliminating the nylon adaptor all together. I inspected the forward AC discharge hose and it also has the same nylon adaptor but it does not appear to be in the same “stressed” environment as the aft AC so I’ll leave it alone for now. My boat is 15 years old so heads up if you have an older R29/R31 with air conditioners

I purchased the "magic hose" at NAPA https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NBH10083 The PN is NBH10083
