Has anyone mounted a cell antenna/booster on their boat to extend reception? If so what kind? Looking for more safety options cost effectively.

Thanks

In the days of 3G, we used a Wilson Sleek cellular booster (a cradle that the phone fit in) on the boat and in the RV - it made a significant difference. Since 4G has been prevalent, we haven't found much need for a booster. Depends on where you are traveling.

Look through Active Captain newsletters. They has a whole series on the boosters. If my memory serves me correctly, Wilson, as mentioned in the previous post, was one touted as good. I must say though that we have had great reception on the entire east coast, Canada and the Tenn-Tom. There were areas on the Tenn-Tom that were spotty, but few and far between. We use AT&T for service. I heard Verizon has pretty good coverage as well.

Found that cell phones offer a great option for communication on board. Using the Blueparrott B250-XT wireless headset provides hands free communication. Great from the CB to the cockpit during docking maneuvers. You can get this toy from WalMart on line.

I highly recommend checking out http://www.evdoinfo.com - I have been purchasing from them for years. They do it all and if you aren't sure what you need ask them (they provide good service).
