Vessel Name
SEAduced
We bought a R29 and are currently in the process of changing the boats name to the name we had on our SeaSport. I found out that there is a proper ceremony when changing the name of your vessel. Has anyone gone through this process?

The gods of the sea will assure safe passage over the Seven Seas to all sailors that follow their doctrine and respect their protocols! Ensure the renaming ceremony is conducted properly in accordance with the laws of Neptune and Poseidon and is respectful to the GODs.
PS - a lot of alcohol will help too. Bob

We did the name change ceremony after we bought our 25SC. You can find the guidelines online. Make it a fun time with family and friends and as Bob stated a bit of alcohol to go around if you so desire. Have fun with it.

Here is a more traditional name changing ceremony.

This sounds like a lot of fun. We loved the name of our old boat so we want to keep the name (SEAduced). We took the name off our old boat and hired a person to change the name. Now just have to have them lift the quarantine so we can get out and start boating.

Of course, the more people involved the better. And you can liven it up a little with adult beverages, but I'm not encouraging you to drink on this occasion 😉

Just some Bar Room Tid-Bits!
The Titanic was never Christened! And we all know what happened to her by angering the GODs.

We performed a re naming ceremony three years ago upon purchase of our Ranger Tug R27. We followed the traditional ceremony found on line. People at our club/marina keep asking when are we doing it again. Just the dock party part, not renaming necessarily. A good time was had by all. Several attendees, landlubbers, had never experienced such an event. Not to say we’re superstitious, but it doesn’t hurt to follow form. The most important part is sharing the libations with the gods of the sea and wind....

That link is the same procedure we followed when we bought our R25SC. Seems to have worked so far! We also tribute some wine to the sea and the boat at the beginning of a passage.

We had a renaming ceremony as well for our R29-CB and had a lot of fun with it. I'm not sure if the sea gods got more of the champagne than I did, but there was plenty to go around! So far, so good... Enjoy it!

How do you change the name on the transponder?

AIS? It should describe how to change the name in the owners manual for the unit you have. Once changed and you start broadcasting, the system will soon reflect the change, or so they say. I haven't tested it yet.
