Hi, I'm nearly there finding/fixing my engine's overheat problem.

Today, during testing, I received a CHECK ENGINE alarm with no error code and no other alarm raised.

I know water in the fuel can a CHECK ENGINE alarm but there was only a very tiny drop when I drained the Racor.

What else can cause a CHECK ENGINE without a corresponding diagnostic code?

How do I display the ALARM LOG to see if I missed one?

Thans! /Stu

I just sent you an e-mail with the manual for the display. There are instructions in there for accessing the alarm and codes.

I have accessed The alarm and codes. The alarm reads “check engine quotein the code reads zero codes and is blank.

Thus, I am stumped.

I previously learned, the hard way, that an alarm with no codes is raised when there is water in the fuel. There was no appreciable water in my fuel, and when I disconnected the sensor just to be sure the alarm did not go away.

I’m trying to get a list of what causes an alarm labeled check engine without a corresponding error code. The engine manual has a list of all the possible alarms that do not record a code. I’m trying to find out which ones are common for our boat because checking them all is a lifelong project.

Thanks for the manual. I have several with similar title, but not this one.

with all the fiddling around you did, try checking the vacuum hoset hat goes to the gate valve on the turbo. It is under and near the filter. If that comes off you will get a check engine alarm at higher RPM's.

I did check that hose - had to remove the impeller heat shield to inspect the slightly leaking seal from the exhaust manifold to the hot water return line. When I put the heat shield on, the blow by tube had to come off. In the process, I inspected the waste gate control hose for leaks and tightness.

The Check Engine alarm stops at about 2500 to 3500 RPM and returns at idle. I suspect a loose connection rather than a fault because the Yanmar Engine Display REBOOTS with every cycle of faults.

One of the causes of a REBOOT is the introduction of a new smart instrument - or the removal of an existing one. This is just a guess on my part, but I suspect a loose connection on one of the instruments no absolutely needed to run.
