In order to check the anodes on the 6By, the service manual as a first step has you draining the cooling system. This is no doubt technically correct but seems very time consuming. I am wondering if these zincs cannot be removed on the fly, so to speak, stopping any leakage with a new zinc while examining the old. Perhaps, providing the heat exchanger zinc remains in place, little water will come out when the charge air cooler zinc is removed. Any advice on the do and dont's in this area would be much appreciated-Doug

Doug,

We just changed two engine cooling circuit zincs. All we did was shut off the sea cock and remove and replace the two that were on the aft end of the engine, starboard side, one high and one low. If there are more zincs to be changed we missed them. A little water went in the bilge but it wasn't a cup if that.

I agree with Ladybug Too, I changed mine last week and had about a cup of water flow into the bilge. You just have to be sure to shut the thru hull first. This is the first time I changed them and it was a very easy job, but will do it at a closer interval next time since there was not much left of them.
