Last winter we experienced a problem with bad diesel fuel. When we returned from Florida I installed a Racor 500ma and a Racor 200 series filters in addition to the yanmar filter on the engine. This installation allows me to operate on the Racor 500ma and the ability to isolate either filter while underway. I would like to install an auxillary 12v diesel pump in the engine compartment to filter the fuel when the engine is not operating, utilizing the Racor 500ma. Has anyone installed this type of system on a Ranger R25 w/ 110hp Yanmar? I would any input and/or suggestions.

PassageMaker has had several articles on that subject in past issues. The concept is generic , not specific to any engine, filter, or boat.

A lot of knowledgeable folks suggest removing that screen. They claim it tends to pickup the crud from the tank bottom and restrict flow. Plus, it's difficult to remove the crud from the screen if it happens. They feel it's better for the filters to do the job.
