Close call & saving one's sole

Our battery charger got fried by a too-close lightning strike last week. To remove it, I had to remove both batteries. I didn't think too much about that since another charger will be here tomorrow.

Tropical storm Debby was potentially headed this way. We checked the boat yesterday, on its trailer in the driveway, to make sure everything was secure. We have had several thunder storms since I began the repairs. My wife happened to notice that the bilge was full of water. Just a shade over the pan under the engine. 😱

I bet the batteries have to be connected to the bilge pump for it to work, huh? :lol:

Since ours is probably laid up until ambient daytime temperatures drop below 90 again (our season is kind of the reverse of the northern season) I pulled the drain plug. "No batteries required."

Glad you spotted that as you may have broken your trailer with all the weight of the water that the boat will hold. We parked our boat and trailer once with the bow pointing downhill in a friend's driveway. This let all the rain water drain forward instead of draining out our scuppers or being taken care of by the bilge pumps. When I pulled out of the driveway to level ground, the bilge pumps worked overtime for a while.
