Will be doing a shakedown cruise on the new (to me) 288 this weekend. Boat is in Portland Yacht Club and being trucked up to Seattle next week. Would appreciate recommendations for a nice Saturday where we could cruise to and have lunch/drinks or any other recommendations for a nice SAT on the Columbia.

Puffin cafe, food is good and docking is easy, around 12 miles upstream. If you go farther upstream, beware of sandbars that aren’t on the charts

Another is island cafe, just across the river from you on Hayden Island

A cruise around Sauvie Island would take a full day. I recommend going with the current on the Columbia down to Saint Helens, Oregon. That’s a fun town and a nice stop. (Free tie ups at the city dock) Return via the Multnomah Channel. (Give a wave to our SALTY DOG, R21-EC about half way). While you would be going against the current, the current is much less than the Columbia. Then turn down on the Willamette, three miles to the Columbia again. At this point you could choose the slow, less current route thru North Portland Harbor, or the faster route on the Columbia back to PYC.

Our R31-CB SEA DOG is at PYC, in boathouse G-12. Let us know if you need anything.

thank you both Todd and NWDIVER- we're going to play it by ear but now I have some idea of what we're getting into. @Todd- we'll be pulling out of I1 tomorrow night with the captain we hired for the shakedown cruise- If you're in G you've probably seen the boat 🙂

If I may ask, who was the previous owner of your c-288? There aren’t very many in Portland. Also, is it a nw edition? If it is, please pm me, there is a wabasto heater issue I would like to discuss with you.

Ed

Ps, with 500 hp, you really don’t notice the current on the Columbia, other than the loud sucking noise coming from the fuel tanks.

Check your PM and text me Ed 🙂
