We have tried several options to add counter space and to cover the stove. At our Southwest Rendezvous I saw what Kevin Flanagan of Heart Tug did for their stove and took it a step further. While in Marathon I came across a shop that does all kinds of custom boat work, so I made up a template of what I needed and in a day had my board. It is all computerized so I am not sure if he has my template on file. If you make your own template make sure you make the notches on the front large enough to clear the screws that hold the front stainless rail in place. I used 1/2" starboard and I had him place the groves on both sides so it is reversible. Here is their website http://www.buckwoodcraft.com/ And here is a shot of the completed product:

A great idea - I suspect it would work on the 25 stovetop as well - question: what is starboard (besides the obvious!)

Starboard is a highly dense stabilized polyethylene that is capable of withstanding chemicals and the salt air environment. It is similar to Azek, a PVC product used as Trim in construction.

thanks much - Does it require specialized tools to cut or can I do it with regular wood working tools? also - you going to be at Mystic rdvs this Aug? If so, I hope to see yo there!
Bill (The Last Word . . .) currently in Cayman with Epilogue

I will be at the CT Rendezvous, especially since I am setting it up with Mystical.
You can use carpentry tools to make it. However, being a cabinet maker by trade, I thought it came out excellently by using the computerized cutting machine.

This looks nice! Which model stove do you have?

We have this on Kismet and would like to pass on a tip, don't ask how we know we just don't want it to happen to you. Obviously you'll take the cover off when you use the stove top burners but beware.....when you use the oven you should also take the cover off. If you do not you'll risk having the starboard melt a bit...and yes this did happened on Kismet. No problem thou we just keep the melted side faced down.

Someone explained to me that is why the factory does not offer this as an option. As Jim said...just be aware of clearing the vents of the stove when using the oven.

hello all, We took a standard size bamboo cutting board we got at Bed bath and beyond, shaved it a bit and it fits perfectly.

Starboard comes in sheets of various sizes and thicknesses. You can pretty much work with it as you would wood. It is usually available at West marine and some other marine supplies and some lumber yards. Many people use it for adding/replacing doors, drawers, etc to their yachts. I have seen some pretty imaginative projects made with starboard.

Did the same thing as Captmike with the bamboo cutting board from Bed, Bath & Beyond. Almost an exact fit, it complements the teak and inexpensive.

For those who are interested in getting one CNC cut out of Starboard, Buckwood quoted me a cost $86 plus shipping. I measured the stove on my Cutwater and it appears to be the same. I think I will get one!

Best,

Steve

Steve: I would like to order one of the CNC-cut starboard cutting boards for our 29. Can you provide order details for Buckwood? Thanks.

Best thing to do is call them at (305) 743-4090. They will take your order and a credit card over the phone. They will send you a receipt when it ships. Mine has shipped, but it has not yet arrived since it is coming via ground from Florida to Seattle, which is about the maximum distance you can ship something that way.

You will need to choose a color -- white white, seafoam (off-white slight yellow tint), black, dolphin gray, sanshade (tan, light khaki). I went with black to match the rest of the stove.

Best,

steve

The cover arrived just after I posted my reply. It looks very good. When I took it to the boat to try it on, I found a slight miss. I had it cut to exactly the same as knoflying's board after not very carefully reviewing the dimensions. It seems my pot rail comes in a bit further than his, so I will need to cut out the small notches on each side at the front a bit more. So, if you want to order one of these you might want make sure your about that dimension. Otherwise all is well and I am very satisfied with the look and functionality of the board.

Best,

Steve
