Recently sold R21-EC
Dear Ranger Factory rep: I trust you can advise me here. I am the owner of a 2010/2011 R21 EC, 'RHAPSODY', which I bought last year from the Ranger Tug dealer here in Western Australia.

I have recently been removing the scuttles (portholes to landlubbers) so I can better access and polish the brasswork and do some custom paint touch up on the inner surfaces of the scuttle rims (red for port and green for stbd: just like my Navy days).

I saw that the scuttles are secured in place by: brass lateral pivot shaft, two circlips, two grub screws and two tiny stainless steel tension springs which are located in a circular recess behind the brass pivot shaft, at either end. These are tensioned against the shaft, once the grub screws are tightened after the whole thing is replaced.

As you would guess, 'Murphy's Law ' prevailed and one of the springs flew out of the hole while I was reinstalling the brass shaft. Being so tiny, it went 'somewhere' in the cabin, but despite looking high and low, I cannot locate it as it is too small.

I have tried to source these springs locally, to no avail. Can the ranger factory supply these to me? If so, I am happy to pay the freight/delivery charges. I would like to obtain at least half a dozen, for future use if and when I ever remove the scuttles again.

Your thoughts, please.

Kind regards 🙂 Stevan Coll

Hello Stevan,

We do not stock the small springs. However, if you contact Whitewater Marine Hardware, west@whitewatermh.com they may be able to help. This is the company we purchase the portholes from.

Thanks,
-Kenny

Hi Kenny: Thanks for that. I contacted them via Andrew Custis and have now received the springs and screws. Great response from Ranger Tugs and Whitewater Marine. Kind regards.
