Connecting GX1600 VHF to Garmin 7610

We have a new R-23 and would like to connect the VHF radio to the GPS so DSC with mmsi can transmit GPS location in an emergency. Kinda expected this to have been done by Ranger but appears not to be. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
 
The units are pretty much plug and play. You should be able to plug a cable into the backbone of the NMEA 2000. You will need a tee and you need to reconnect the end cap terminator or it will screw things up. Not sure where the backbone is on the R-23.
