The kids and wife have been bugging me to get another boat. I've owned lots of boats. Sailboats, ski boats, fishing boats but nothing bigger than 26'. I like the idea of a boat small enough to tow to the house to store and do maintenance. So the R-23 looks attractive in size yet has big boat features. I live in CT so the season is pretty short here and an enclosed helm appeals to me. I started looking at the Parker 23 pilothouse but came across the R-23. I've always wanted a tug but thought I would have to wait until I was retired. The R-23 looks like I could have a tug and a ski boat. A few questions for R-23 owners. It is 28.5 feet LOA but most of the weight is toward the bow. A typical 28' boat designed to plane doesn't have that kind of weight towards the bow. In a four foot chop is it like a 23' boat or a 28' boat? If you have a four hour ride home are you sucking it up or is it tolerable in that kind of weather? Any boater knows what I'm talking about, the bone jarring pounding that is miserable. I understand speed is a factor so lets say at 10 knots which wouldn't be a plane. The other question is my kids like to tube. Is it able to whip them around? I need a ski boat an 1/8 of the time and a comfortable cruiser the rest... wonder if there is a way to tow/connect a PWC to a boat that size

Found a 2017 R-25 SC for $115k. Not sure what SC means but it's diesel. Did some research and there are ways to tow PWC's. Dealer is telling me that no one buys small boats with diesels anymore and it will be hard to unload. Is that the case? If your bored check it out. Rex Marine in Norwalk Ct. Looks like a bargain to me?

Welcome!
The SC stands for “Scrunched-up Cabin”. Kidding. I think it stands for Sports Cockpit. The R-25 Classic was built from 2007 to 2010. The R-25 SC was built from 2010 to 2017. The base list price for the 2017 R-25 SC was $160,000.
Lots of differences between the Classic and the SC but the main one was extending the cockpit area to have the engine completely aft of the cabin area in the SC. Makes for arguably easier engine access and quieter cabin. They did this by shortening the cabin length in the SC by about 15” or so.
The R-25 diesel is better suited for extended overnight family cruising than the R-23 O/B in my opinion. Lots more room in the cabin. Not a great water ski boat though. You would need a trailer for the 2017 SC you referenced. And it needs a “bigger“ tow vehicle than would be required for the R-23.
There’s lots of demand for used R-23s and R-25s. Good luck in your search!
PS: The LOA if the R-25 is actually a foot or so shorter than the R-23 O/B.
