Our tug's D4-300 engine - new in 2018 - has now accumulated 720 hours. It is perhaps time to change the coolant.

I am looking for answers to the following questions:

Which Volvo Coolant is needed? Green or Yellow?

Where can I buy this here in the Seattle area?

How much do I need?

How do I I drain the old coolant?

Anything else I need to know about this procedure.

Thanks in advance...

There are past threads on this -- most recently within the last two weeks or so. Search on "coolant" and you will find it. The question arose for a D6, but the procedure will be similar for a D4. Brian Brown, always a great resource, walked through it in some detail. One of the important things to consider is that, on our Ranger Tugs and Cutwaters, the coolant runs through the water heater, on to the space heater up by the helm, and then back to the engine. The process for changing the coolant needs to account for that. If not drained and refilled properly, it's possible to get an "air lock" in that part of the loop.

Thank you Gini

I started by searching for coolant, but somehow messed up.

Now I have just one question: Where can I find the Volvo VCS yellow coolant in Seattle?

Try Pacific Power Group.
