I am in the process of buying a 2013 R31S. The surveyor noted a significant amount of corrosion on the transmission hydraulic fittings. How concerned should I be? The dealer says that they have 2015 R31CB that is showing the same issues implying that they are of no consequence. If it is significant, I would like to ask the current owner to foot the bill for their replacement. Thanks for your help.
Two photos of the corrosion are in my Photo Album

Not very clear pictures. Seems like a simple fix. Is it just the nipple that is corroded? I can't tell from the pictures.

Better the fittings corode than the gear box. Cheaper to relate fittings. Perhaps dissimilar metal or just surface corrosion. Pictures are not very sharp. Scratch on corroded surface and see how deep it goes. Surveyors will always err on a cautious side. Even when there is nothing to see they will write that hidden problems may still be present to cover them from lawsuits

I have a Cutwater 30. Mine are the same way. Boat is a little over a year old.

Generally, that isn't a huge issue. I have worked on boats in Alaska for years and if you wire brush them while they are still on, and shoot a little WD40 on them they will look good again. They will go back to the corroded condition in time, but the fittings are made well and the inside of the fitting won't corrode, so it is okay. If you wire brush it, make sure that dust and bristles don't get in your bilge and look to see that the fitting isn't pitted. Just surface corrosion, if it pits, then be more concerned. I would also inspect the hoses for cracking and look throughout the engine compartment for indications that saltwater has splashed around a lot.
I have seen a varnish on some fittings that turns them a bit yellowish, but does keep corrosion off, but I am not sure what it is or where to get it.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments. Sorry about the fuzzy photos, but I got them from the surveyor and that's all that's available. I hope soon to be a happy owner of a R-31S and look forward to interacting with a group as experienced and helpful as you.
