Has anyone else had a failure of the MAP (manifold air pressure) sensor on the Cummins engine? Mine failed and I ordered a replacement based on the Mercruiser part number. The list price was $175 and the best price I could find on-line was about $125. After I received it had a Bosch part number on it. A quick internet search found the same item for $30. The same sensor is used in various auto engines including Jeep, Mazda, and Volvo products. At that price and since we're planning on spending all next summer cruising SEAK I'm ordering a spare.

I don't begrudge anyone making a profit but sometimes it's just shameful...

Yup, due to the illicit affair between Mercruiser and Cummins we QSB2 engine owners are the red headed step child of the industry
It probably gets worse as the engines age. I can hardly wait

Oh yeah, post the part number of the $30 item for the rest of us holding our breath.

Actually now that I've gotten past the starting issues I'm finding it's not a bad little engine. I suspect any ongoing problems are going to be electrical/instruments just as with the starting and this sensor. The ECM uses several critical sensor inputs to control the engine. So sensor failures will likely be an ongoing issue. Which is the lesser of the possible evils. If not for the access challenges changing out one of the sensors would be a snap. Due to the engine being jammed in the way that it is swapping out the MAP sensor requires removal of the alternator. Otherwise it would be a simple five minute job.
