Does anyone have any experience with the small Cummins MerCruiser engine QSD2.0-130 or 150? I am looking at a boat that is equipped with a QSD2.0. In the maintenance schedule the item that caught my eye was the timing belt needs to be replaced every 1,000 hours or 4 years.
Has anyone had to replace it do to time (1,000 hours)?

The rumors I have heard, this repair is very expensive. If so how much was it to replace?

Any information would be good!

Not really expensive. You can change it yourself. I carry a spare. Might have been close to $100 but if it was replaced every 1000 hours that is a lot of miles. No big deal. Good engine. I have run it wide open for hours with small breaks of slower speeds. After this winter and 2000miles, I am a believer.

Captd,
Thanks for responding.
Are we talking about the some belt? I am talking about the Timing Beltthat is behind the plastic covers on the front of the motor. The timing belt runs, retail $500.00 + labor.
The belt that runs about $100.00 is the accessory drive belt; this is the belt that is out in the open in front that is fully exposed. It’s like a fan belt on a car or truck. I agree it is a belt you should carry but really should not give much trouble.
Have fun with your QSD 2.0.

Thank you for straighting me out. But the same reasoning applys. 1000 hours is a lot of miles. I don't know anyone approaching that much time on the water with the Ranger. I had those kind of hours in my C-Dory with twin Hondas after seven years. I think the Ranger with Cummins will out last me. 😉 If for some reason I am still lucky enough to be around after 10 to 20,000 miles, I will gladly pay the money to have it done, plus other mandatory items.
Just in case I will continue to subscribe to Sea Tow. 😀
