Good morning,
I was wondering if you shut all the privacy curtains and put the blind on the windshield when you are away from the boat? if so, is it to avoid having the sun in the boat or just to keep the curious away? I see that many people do not close there blind/curtains when we are in a marina, and was wondering if the sun exposure will affect the wood finish and other things Inside the tug if the curtains are left open...

We do everything we can to keep the sun out of the boat to protect the wood, fabrics etc. My wife made a privacy curtain for the inside of the windshield. We can easily put it up and take it down with just a few snaps.

I now use a curtain with 4x snaps Inside the boat that follow the windshield shape and it is the same piece of fabric that is used outside when driving on the road. It is much quicker to install and remove than on the exterior.

Here is a little anecdote from last year... I was alongside a lock for the night on the Rideau Canal and we were getting ready to go ashore after supper and though that it would be a good idea to close all curtain including the windshield. So off I went on the bow to install the blind, pulled on the wiper arm to put the curtain behind it, guess what happen! The wiper blade fell in the water!!!!! Oh my, it was dark down there in 8 feet of water. The visibility was zero! So I had to search by hand feeling only, found it amongs other things LOL, so this year, I installed some snap Inside the cabin, never again!

For some reason, the wiper blade will not lock on the wiper arm... No big deal now that I know about it...

We put up all the curtains in the cabin when in a marina for privacy and to help the A/C keep the cabin cooler. On the hook we don't.

Cheers!

If the boat is left in a covered slip and the marina has good security there's little need to cover the windows IMO. The only time I have ever used the curtains for privacy was when visiting remote marinas where we slept in the boat.

After 6 years the teak inside our R-25 (Classic) cabin was as good as day-1. I believe I used Teak oil once in the 6 years. For the cockpit's transom storage enclosure for the R-25 (Classic) the enclosure's door are always exposed and could weather some over the years I suppose. I've seen some that are in terrible shape.

While in our home port, we close the curtains for protecting the teak and keeping the heat/cool air in. In the winter, with the heater on, it's nice to have a "warm" inside. During the summer, the curtains keep the inside cool. We have a nice secured marina, so keeping the curtains close was not because of curious looky loos.

Same here and to kkep it cool.

Even though we have the snap on cover for the outside of the windshield, i installed a windshield curtain on the inside of the window. I purchased the aluminum iBeam from Sailrite which allowed me to contour it to shape. I attached small clips to the rollers and made a two part curtain. We can utilize it for sunshade or privacy in a matter of seconds. It stores to either side or both sides of the windshield. Removal is easy. Simply squeeze the clips and pull the curtain out to wash or change. The previous owner also had all the windows tinted, with the exception of the windshield, since he was in South Carolina. Very good investment for keeping the boat cool in the summer heat and very private looking inward!

I'm not sure how to attach the photo in this message, but I have uploaded it to my album if anyone is interested.

Nice set up. I checked out the hardware on Sailrite. Did you screw the support brackets to the fiberglass or did you use adhesive? I’m not too fond of the idea of the screws.
