Brian of BB marine did a great job installing galley shelves he built for his Cutwater. While in lock down in Florida I have also built some galley shelves which on one side would attach to the side wall of the inside of the storage area of my Ranger 31 which is in Michigan. The mystery point of my project is that I don't know the substance of the inside side walls and whether they will hold a screw and at what depth. Can anyone help me with this issue.

I don't know about the Ranger 31 but the interior walls in the cabinets of the C26 are 1/2 starboard. I used # 10 ss self tapping screws to fasten shelve cleats to the starboard walls.

Barling,
Just looked inside the cabinets under the sink of our 2016 R-31S. Sidewalls are fiberglass, back is starboard, looks to be 3/8". Back panel is an access panel installed with screws.

I would contact Ranger/cutwater to ascertain the material, my R27-2011 uses a combination or starboard and PVC board. A lot depends on the loading, screw size and length or screw. Remember a shear load fastener can withstand a higher load than a load in tension. The use of a cleat helps spread the load. Glue does not stick to starboard.

I installed the shelves in 2016/2017 winter season .With the cleats mounted to the starboard and in places 1/2 plywood and fiberglass #10 self tapping screws. I applied a small dab of 5200 adhesive while mounting. It has held up well, the shelves are loaded with dishes and glasses and the lower have appliances on them. Boating on Lake Michigan and Huron the boat has taken a beating a few times with no issue. 5200 will hold up well with starboard. The starboard mounted by the factory is done the same way except no adhesive.

Good luck with your install.

Thank you All. Mystery solved.
