Had the boat looked over after haul out for the winter. I turns out we need a new cutlass bearing. The marina changed it and said it was in really bad shape. I had them check the shaft as well just to rule that out. The boat only has three New England seasons on it and 150 hours. Really surprised by this I guess.

Did you ever have the shaft alignment checked? It is supposed to be checked initially at 50 hours. You said you had the shaft checked, but you were not clear if it was the alignment that you had checked.

It was checked at just over 50 hours

I'm not aware of any other Ranger Tugs requiring a cutless bearing replacement, particularly at 150 hours. What are your symptoms? I'd be inclined to get a second opinion. I suppose that a short life could be due to misalignment at the factory, a poorly balanced prop, or striking an underwater object, but this is a unique problem.

I saw it myself. You can move the shaft up and down. It has been replaced and I will have the engine alignment done again when they launch the boat in the spring
