Cutwater 302 Transducer upgrade

Hi folks, first post in your fine forum as I am a new 302 owner.

I am wondering if anyone here has upgraded their 302 shoot through the hull, or mounted a thru hull transducer on a 302 coupe NW edition. I fish a lot and cannot use the factory ducer for my needs. Thanks for any info if you have upgraded your transducers.

It depends if you trailer your boat or not. There are very few spots to attach an outside transducer, especially with an onboard engine. I would be very much nterested to install a side scanning transducer on my r27 and I do trailer my boat.

In case this helps with any future or current owner, I spoke with Jeff Messmer who spoke with Dave Livingston who designed this hull. The only clean water where a ducer will read cleanly while underway is ahead of the step about 1 foot. I chose a B175chw in 20 degree tilt through hull to pair with the factory GT15m-IH shoot through the hull.

Once I take delivery of the boat I will report on performance.

Other things I learned during this process is that Port Boat house in Nanimo reports that the Garmin panoptix transducer transom mount works decently while at fishing water speeds when mounted just starboard of the aft thruster. I didnt care for this transducer type for fishing so I opted with a high quality downview.

How are you finding the performance with the second transducer? Did you have a way to compare before/after? I likely have the same Garmin and will confirm upon delivery. I'm trying to determine an easy way to get a listing of the many third party components and sub components installed.

Riley, I installed a Throu-hull transducer on my boat, a R-21EC . I chose a Airmar flush mounted standard 50/200 unit with temperature, protrudes less than a 1/4 in and is safe for training and will not damage if sitting on the bunks. You can get various options as far as chirp or what power you want. I would recommend going to the garman transducer guide for more information.

Where did you bring it through the hull that you had access to wire to Garmin front end? I Have a RT29 and want to do a through hull to enable ClearVu technology, not sure where I can bring through hull?

Franco, I placed the throu-hull transducer beside the original in-hull transducer there was a space between the original transducer and the toilet holding tank, ( not much but enough ). Measured numerous times to make sure I would clear the trailer bunks and equipment in side the boat. The transducer comes with about 30-40 ft of cable ( I only needed about 10 ft ) so I rolled up excess cable and tie-wrapped in bilge area. Lots of good videos on U-Tube on installation and how-To's.
The biggest fear was drilling a 2 in hole in the bottom of the boat, I did check with a boat repair shop to see how much it was going to cost if I messed up, and then went for it!
The new cable run followed the same path as the old transducer cable which was left in place for a backup.

Might not be relevant unless hull design is similar but here is where I put mine on a Ranger 25. Quite happy with low speed results with xsv Garmin unit combination. Spent a lot of time in analysis of the least turbulent location.

Hope link works. Drilling hole is a worry but no problem if you are meticulous. For some reason the image is distorted, not native format perhaps, but you get the idea.

I go in for service in January and will upgrade the GT-15 transducer, possibly with the B175HW. How do you find the performance? Also, where exactly did you end up mounting...is '1 ft ahead of the step' in the same area as the GT-15?

I was also looking at the B265 LM https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/88705 since I'd like to get deep water coverage as well and understand the B175 is mainly 0 - 500 ft.

I have a new 2021 C28 that I will be installing a Garmin GT56UHD-TM Transom Mount Transducer. I have the low speed module/valve for trolling and expect at trolling speeds under 5kts that the transducer will work without any problems. It is too turbulent for faster speeds, and that's where the factory shoot thru the hull will take over. I will post updates when it is in the water.

To my knowledge all Tugs and Cutwaters are equipped only with traditional transducers. Garmin offers additional transducers that greatly increase your ability to see what is below. I added Garmin's GT40-TM transducer. This transducer added Clear View (very good detail of the bottom showing structures), Side View (very good detail of what is outside of the boat's path), Traditional View, and water temperature. You can even switch between the old traditional view and new. The new transducer mounts on the transom and installation is not difficult. I have the 7612 chart plotter that I had upgraded to enable auto guidance, so when I plugged in the new transducer lead, everything worked.
